Community Spirit

A community where
women rise together

Ladies of Lovelace — LOL — is a women-in-technology community operating under the fiscal sponsorship of KBI MTÜ, a registered non-profit organisation in Estonia.

We are named in honour of Ada Lovelace — the 19th-century mathematician and visionary widely regarded as the world's first computer programmer. Her legacy reminds us that women have always belonged at the forefront of technology, even when the world suggested otherwise.

Our community is not a corporation, a product, or a brand exercise. It is a living network of women who believe in lifting one another, serving their communities, and ensuring that the next generation of women in tech has a softer landing than the one before.

Members — called Ladies of Lovelace — bring with them the values of service, intellectual rigour, elegance, and solidarity. We are early-career engineers and seasoned CTOs, students and professors, founders and contributors. What unites us is a shared commitment to each other and to the wider world.

"That brain of mine is something more than merely mortal; as time will show."
— Ada Lovelace, 1844
The Name & The Legacy

Ada Lovelace (1815–1852) wrote the first algorithm intended to be processed by a machine. A century before computers existed as we know them, she envisioned what they could become. We carry her name as a pledge: to see what others cannot yet see, and to build it anyway.

Mission &
Values

To cultivate a generation of women who lead with intelligence, serve with grace, and build with intention.

Ladies of Lovelace exists to lower the barriers women face in technology, not by making the field easier, but by ensuring no woman faces it alone. We provide mentorship, community, scholarship pathways, and spaces for genuine learning — all rooted in a culture of service and mutual support.

We believe that the future of technology is not written by the solitary genius, but by communities of brilliant, supported people working together. We intend to be one of those communities.

Service

Community service is the heartbeat of LOL. We give back — to our members, our communities, and the broader world of women in tech.

Integrity

We hold ourselves to the highest standard of honesty and ethics in all that we do, both within and beyond the community.

Intellect

We celebrate curiosity, learning, and excellence. Intellectual growth is a lifelong pursuit, not a destination.

Solidarity

No woman is left behind. We advance together — those ahead reach back, and those behind reach forward.

Vision

Like Ada, we look beyond the present. We seek to imagine, create, and lead in spaces where women are still too rare.

Elegance

In code and in character, we strive for solutions that are not merely functional, but beautiful and considered.

Programme Areas

Our work is organised into five interconnected areas of activity, each designed to support women in technology at different stages of their journey — from first lines of code to the C-suite.

Mentorship

Structured mentorship pairings connecting experienced professionals with those earlier in their careers. We believe mentorship is a two-way gift: the mentee gains guidance, the mentor gains perspective.

1:1 Mentoring Peer Circles Career Guidance

Scholarship & Education

We champion pathways to education in technology for women who face financial, cultural, or structural barriers. Our scholarship programme is being developed in partnership with KBI MTÜ.

Scholarships Education Access Bursaries

Technology Learning

Workshops, study groups, hackathons, and peer-led learning sessions — from beginner coding to advanced engineering topics. We create safe spaces where women can learn without judgement.

Community & Fellowship

Beyond programmes, LOL is a place of belonging. Regular gatherings, shared celebrations, a private community space, and a culture that prizes genuine connection over networking.

Charter &
Code of Conduct

Ladies of Lovelace is built on trust, respect, and shared values. This Charter articulates the principles by which we operate and the standards every member commits to upholding.

Preamble

Ladies of Lovelace (LOL) is a women-in-technology community operating under the fiscal sponsorship of KBI MTÜ, a registered non-profit organisation in Estonia. LOL exists to advance the participation, wellbeing, and success of women in the field of technology through community service, mentorship, scholarship, and fellowship.

We take our name and our inspiration from Ada Lovelace (1815–1852), whose intellectual courage and visionary mind remind us that women have always belonged at the frontier of computation. Her legacy is not merely historical — it is instructional.

"We are each other's harvest; we are each other's business; we are each other's magnitude and bond." — Gwendolyn Brooks

Membership

Membership in Ladies of Lovelace is open to women who identify with the community's values and who commit to its standards of conduct and service. Membership is a privilege, not a right, and carries with it both benefits and responsibilities.

  • Membership is open to women in or pursuing technology careers at any level
  • Students, early-career professionals, and senior leaders are equally welcome
  • Ally membership is available for those who support the mission without being active technologists
  • All members agree to the Code of Conduct upon joining

Violations may result in a private conversation, formal warning, or removal from the community, depending on severity. All reports are handled with discretion by community stewards.

Service Commitment

Community service is the cornerstone of membership in Ladies of Lovelace. We do not define service narrowly. It may take many forms:

  • Mentoring a fellow member or student
  • Contributing to open-source projects or civic technology
  • Teaching, tutoring, or running workshops
  • Volunteering with organisations that align with our mission
  • Giving talks, writing, or creating educational content
  • Organising community events or circles

All active members are expected to contribute meaningfully to service in a form that suits their skills, time, and circumstances. There is no single correct way to serve — only the genuine intention to do so.

Governance

Ladies of Lovelace operates under the stewardship of a founding committee during its establishment phase. Over time, governance will evolve to reflect the community's growth and wishes.

  • LOL operates under the fiscal and legal umbrella of KBI MTÜ, Estonia
